For Massage Therapists: How to Petition through a Current Bill for Rate Increase (we need LMT input to influence legislators to add us to the chiropractor’s bill):
1-Go to the site below
Follow the below instructions. Feel free to use the insurance_complaint files above and cut and paste your favorite complaints. I’ve already written it. You just need to attach it and your name to the conversation.

If you follow the link to the information page of HB1655, https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1655&Year=2023&Initiative=false
You can read the full bill language, titled “Original Bill”, or you can read the “House Bill Analysis” of the bill, the analysis is a bit easier to digest. Also, you can send a comment to your legislators or a legislator in particular directly from this page, the link to “Comment on this bill” is on the upper right hand corner of the webpage. Typical comments would be something along the lines of, “reimbursement rates for massage have done nothing but decrease over the last 10 years, yet operation costs have only gone up”. Expand on that and tell your story as an LMT.

Does Your Insurance Cover Massage?
Movement Intelligence has worked hard for ten years to say that MI is in network with most insurances,. However, due to the need to remain open for business, MI cannot accept new insurance patients until further notice. Why? Massage therapy rates have not increased in twenty years, making insurance patient suffer. How can you help? Get active. You are the member, and therefore you are in the position to make change. We at MI have spent years trying, but we are not as powerful as you, the members.
What is In Network?
This means that your insurance offers you the best discounts for massage-- low copay or coinsurance costs, and often a waived deductible. At your massage sessions, you pay the copay/co-insurance and Hallie submits the paperwork.
What is Out of Network?
This means your insurance offers discounts for massage that are lower than paying the therapist's full cash rate. Sometimes in and out of network costs are identical, so make sure to check your benefits. At your sessions, you pay the out-of-network copay/coinsurnace, and Hallie submits the paperwork.
